Bayangkan anda menaiki sebuah kereta api dengan kecepatan 300km/jam. Ketika berada di dalam, masinis memberikan pengumuman bahwa rem dalam kereta tidak berfungsi dan tidak ada cara apapun untuk menghentikan laju kereta tersebut selain menabrakkan diri kepada sebuah objek dengan resiko hantaman super keras. Setidaknya perasaan penuh cemas berbalut turbulensi ibarat penumpang dalam kereta tersebut lah yang saya rasakan ketika mendengarkan EP yang dimuntahkan trio Psychoriot. EP ini dibuka oleh sebuah komposisi bernuansa ballad yang pada khalayaknya sebuah klise akan pengantar perjalanan menuju maut. Jika nampaknya, orang akan mengasosiakan sebuah band thrash metal berkomposisi ballad dengan Metallica, justru nomor pembuka berjudul Tethrastructural ini menghadirkan nuansa yang lebih gelap ala Ghost yang lalu disusul oleh ritmik ‘gallop’ bernadi cepat. Sebuah kecohan yang lumayan segar. Setidaknya ada 4 nomor susulan yang mampu memberikan perasaan cemas bekecamuk dengan adrenalin membayangkan akan output dari tabrakan kereta tadi. Nomor macam, Titah Sampah, hingga Congkak Tanpa Redam, benar-benar menghadirkan nuansa agresif dan ketat tanpa celah. Diringkus dengan gaya bernyanyi (Ajeng) yang terdengar sangat parau semakin membuat adrenalin semakin menjadi-jadi.
Setidaknya, di scene Jogja sendiri, Psychoriot adalah sebuah penyegaran dalam komunitas musik trah kebut-kebutan. Saya tidak mencoba menyatakan kata “penyegaran” dengan maksud klise seperti yang sudah diutarakan ratusan liner note lain pada sebuah rilisan baru. Setidaknya, saya memiliki pandangan subjektif saya sendiri. Yang pertama adalah soal lirik yang mereka tulis. Sungguh saya sudah jemu dengan band trah ngebut yang tidak menulis tema maupun lirik dengan bobot yang berimbang dengan musiknya yang berat dan penuh kemarahan. Dominasi band Thrash, Grindcore maupun Power Violence dengan konsep guyon dan tidak menghasilkan agresi apapun sudah terlalu banyak. Psychoriot berpaling dari hal ini. Mereka menguji rangkaian aksara mereka dengan kritikan sosial maupun ratapan introspeksi kekelaman diri. Hal kedua yang patut ditengok adalah mereka tidak malu-malu. Tanpa “ba bi bu” nekat menghajar dan mengkaryakan manifestasi dari kemarahan mereka hanya bertiga saja. Tidak punya pemain bass? The show must go on, boss! Tidak ada basa-basi dan waktu yang layak dibuang untuk menumpahkan banyak emosi, apa lagi ekspresi luapan kemarahan yang terpendam. Bahkan, saya rasa jika mereka hanya bersisa pemain dram dan vokalis saja, mereka akan tetap mampu mengkolase kemarahan mereka lebih keras dari pada hantaman palu gada ke kepala kalian.

Just imagine you go by train with a speed of 300 km/h. Once inside, the driver announces that the brakes on the train are not working and that there is no way to stop the train other than colliding with another object, with the risk of a super-heavy smash. A similar feeling of anxiety, close to that caused by the turbulence felt by the passengers of the train, accompanied me when I listened to the EP of the Psychoriot trio. The EP opens with a ballad that seems to be a cliche introduction to a journey towards death. Most associate thrash metal bands performing ballad compositions with Metallica. In reality, however, in the opening EP piece entitled Tethrastructural, you can find much darker Ghost-style nuances followed by a fast, rhythmic "gallop". A trick that surprises with its freshness. The next 4 pieces may evoke a feeling of anxiety combined with adrenaline, recalling the result of the previously mentioned collision of a train with an obstacle. Starting from Titah Sampah to Congkak Tanpa Redam the pieces sound aggressive and leave no time to breathe. Enriched with Ajeng's hoarse singing, listening became an even more intense experience.
In the fast-growing Jogja trash scene, Psychoriot is a breath of freshness. And I do not use the phrase "breath of freshness" as a cliché duplicated by hundreds of other descriptions of newly released albums. This is my own subjective judgment. First, it is about the texts they write. I'm already bored with trash bands whose themes or lyrics don't balance their heavy and angry music. The dominance of trash, grindcore and power violence bands, the concept of which is based on a joke and does not generate any aggression, goes too far. Psychoriot departs from such a concept. Instead, they write texts filled with social criticism and exploring their dark self. Secondly, and it is also worth emphasizing, nothing stops them. Without unnecessary self-pity, the three of them only try to process their anger. You don't have a bassist? The show must go on, boss! They don't waste time on unnecessary chats and analyzes, they don't suppress their anger. In fact, I think if there were only drummers and singers left, they would still be able to express their anger more forcefully than a hit the head would do.
